As mentioned in the Filtering tutorial, BodhiGold allows you to create directories that contain symbols that are filtered by ranking. Every equity is ranked according to its companies Market Capitalisation. Market Capitalisation is the amount of stocks issued multiplied by the current closing price. The ranking is a dynamic value that is recalculated each time you download new information.
There are two steps that must take place before you can export symbols using the Ranked Criteria:
A. Refresh the Ranking in the Exchange you want to filter.
B. Create a directory and add the filter.
A. Refresh the Ranking in an Exchange
When you first install BodhiGold the symbols are unranked. To rank them you must go into each Product list individually and refresh the ranking. For this example, we will refresh the ranking in the Australian Stock Exchange Equity Product List.
- Open BodhiGold and click the Configure button.
- Click on the + next to Australia then the + next to Australian Stock Exchange then click on Equity.
- The Australian Stock Exchange Equity Product Manager will appear.
- From the Bundle box, select Top100. You will notice that the Active box indicates that zero symbols are selected.
- Right-click over the word Top100, a box will appear giving you two choices:
New Limit = selecting this option allows you to change the Top100 limit.
New Rankings = selecting this option will re-calculate the ranking of all the symbols.
- Select New Rankings from the box.
The Active box now indicates that the Top100 symbols have been selected. This shows that all the symbols in the list have been ranked.
- In the above graphic, Alcoa is selected as one of the symbols that is ranked in the Top100. You can view the ranking of this symbol by doing the following:
- Click on Alcoa (so it is highlighted).
- Go to View>Detail. The details box for Alcoa will appear.

- At the time of ranking these symbols, Alcoa was listed as 8 in the ASX Top100. The Market Capitalisation for this symbol is $34,632,092,451.84 (Item Issued x Last Closed).
- Exit the AAI Details box by clicking on the x.
- In the Bundle box, select All. This gives you access to all the symbols in the ASX Equity list.
B. Creating a directory and adding a ranking filter
Now that we've ranked all the symbols in the ASX Equity list we can now filter the Top 150 into a specified directory using the Ranked Criteria Wizard. This wizard will re-calculate the ranking each time you download new information.
In this example we will create a directory called c:\Data\Bodhi\ASX\Top150 that contains only the ASX Top 150 equities.
- Open BodhiGold and click the Configure button.
- Right-click on the words DEFAULT Distribution.
- Click the Manager button. The Profile Manager dialog box will open.

- Go to File>Copy Selected Profile.
- Enter a name - (for example: TOPS) then click OK.

- Click OK to the Warning Message. Your new TOPS distribution list will now be active.
- If you only want your data filtering into TOPS directories, delete all the other records in this list. You can do this quickly by clicking on the first directory then scrolling to the bottom of the list and clicking on the last directory, whilst holding down the Shift key. The entire list should now be highlighted. Go to Path>Delete.

- To create the TOPS directories, go to Path>Insert. The Insert Path form will appear.
- In Group, type in the directory you want to create (c:\Data\Bodhi\ASX\Top150). Wildcards such as: %Source% which filters all the data into a 3 letter exchange code (i.e. Australian Stock Exchange = ASX) and %Market% which filters all the data into market groups such as Equity, Indice, Option etc. can be used here.

- In Format, choose your required format from the drop-down box. You can only do one format at a time. If you are using multiple formats, simply repeat these instructions.
- Exit the Insert Path box (x). This directory will now be added to your TOPS Profile Manager.
The Criteria for this directory is currently set to All.
- We now have to add the filtering that will limit this directory so it only contains the ASX Top 150 Equities. To do this, we will need to add filtering to the Source, Market and Ranked criteria.
- Double-click in the Source Criteria box.
- In the Source Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

- On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on is equal to and select Australian Stock Exchange from the second drop-down box.
- Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x) and exit the Source Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only information for the Australian Stock Exchange and ignores all other Exchanges you have selected.
- Double-click in the Market Criteria box.
- In the Market Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

- On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on is equal to and select Equity from the second drop-down box.
- Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x) and exit the Market Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only equity information from the Australian Stock Exchange and ignores all other ASX Markets (ie. Options; Indices etc.) you have selected.
- Double-click in the Ranked Criteria box.
- In the Ranked Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

- On the Choose dialog box, select is less than from the first drop-down box then type 151 in the second box.
- Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x) and exit the Ranked Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only the Top 150 equities from the Australian Stock Exchange and ignores all other ASX symbols ranked higher than 150.
- Each time you download new information for the ASX Equities, BodhiGold will re-calculate the ranking of all the symbols by multiplying the number of shares on issue by today's closing price.
