Create a personal portfolio of securities
As mentioned in the Filtering tutorial, BodhiGold allows you to create directories that contain only symbols that you have chosen. This is handy if you want a directory that contains only the symbols that you have invested in (i.e your portfolio) or symbols that pertain to a certain group (ie. S&P/ASX 200 Index).

There are two ways you can use the Symbol Criteria in BodhiGold.
A. Type in the codes manually.
B. Load a tick list.

If you plan to only filter 20 symbols (or less) into a directory, you would use the first option and type the codes straight into the criteria, otherwise you should create a tick list. A tick list is created by selecting the symbols individually in the Product lists and saving it to a file. This list can then be added to or deleted from as required.

A. Type in the codes manually

Adding codes to the Symbol criteria is simple, however you need to enter the correct Exchange code or BodhiGold won't download the correct file. If you are unsure of the codes you need to enter, read this tutorial on Searching for Companies/Exchange Codes.

In this example we will filter 10 Australian Stock Exchange Equity companies into a c:\My Portfolio directory. The codes we have selected are in the table below:

Exchange Code Company
AOER Arrow Energy (Rights)
BHP BHP Billiton
CBA Commonwealth Bank of Aust.
MBN Mirabela Nickel Ltd
MVL Microview Ltd
NHE New Horizon Energy Ltd
OMI Occupational & Medical Innovations Ltd
OST OneSteel Ltd
RMC Rimcapital Ltd
YAM Yamarna Goldfields Ltd
  1. Open BodhiGold and click the Configure button.
  2. Right-click on the words DEFAULT Distribution.
  3. Click the Manager button. The Profile Manager dialog box will open.

    BodhiGold: Manager button

  4. Go to File>Copy Selected Profile.
  5. Enter a name - (for example: MYGROUPS) then click OK.

    BodhiGold: Profile Manager

  6. Click OK to the Warning Message. Your new MYGROUPS distribution list will now be active.
  7. If you only want your data filtering into the MYGROUPS directory, delete all the other records in this list. You can do this quickly by clicking on the first directory then scrolling to the bottom of the list and clicking on the last directory, whilst holding down the Shift key. The entire list should now be highlighted. Go to Path>Delete.

    BodhiGold: Delete all directories

  8. To create the MYGROUPS directory, go to Path>Insert. The Insert Path form will appear.
  9. In Group, type in the directory you want to create (c:\My Portfolio). Wildcards such as: %Source% which filters all the data into a 3 letter exchange code (i.e. Australian Stock Exchange = ASX) and %Market% which filters all the data into market groups such as Equity, Indice, Option etc. can be used here.

    BodhiGold: Insert My Portfolio directory

  10. In Format, choose your required format from the drop-down box. You can only do one format at a time. If you are using multiple formats, simply repeat these instructions.
  11. Exit the Insert Path box (x). This directory will now be added to your MYGROUPS Profile Manager.

    BodhiGold: My Portfolio Directory
The Criteria for this directory is currently set to All.

  12. We now have to add the filtering that will limit this directory so it only contains the 10 ASX Equity symbols we have chosen. To do this, we will need to add filtering to the Source, Market and Symbol criteria.
  13. Double-click in the Source Criteria box.
  14. In the Source Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

    BodhiGold: Filtering Source to ASX

  15. On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on is equal to and select Australian Stock Exchange from the second drop-down box.
  16. Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x) and exit the Source Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only information for the Australian Stock Exchange and ignores all other Exchanges you have selected.
  17. Double-click in the Market Criteria box.
  18. In the Market Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

    BodhiGold: Filtering Market to Equities

  19. On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on is equal to and select Equity from the second drop-down box.
  20. Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x) and exit the Market Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only equity information from the Australian Stock Exchange and ignores all other ASX Markets (ie. Options; Indices etc.) you have selected.
  21. Double-click in the Symbol Criteria box.
  22. In the Symbol Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

    BodhiGold: Filtering Symbols

  23. On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on is equal to then type AOER in the second box. Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x).
  24. In the Symbol Filter Editor, click the Insert button. On the Choose dialog box, leave the first drop-down box on OR and the second on is equal to then type BHP in the third box. Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x). Keep repeating this process until you have added all 10 symbols.

  25. Exit the Symbol Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only the 10 equities from the Australian Stock Exchange we have entered.

B. Load a tick list

It is sensible to use a tick list if you are going to filter more than 20 symbols into a directory. A tick list gives you the added flexibility of changing your list simply by de-selecting or selecting symbols from the market group.

In this example we will create a directory called c:\My Portfolio and filter the above 10 symbols into the directory by loading a tick list. Before we add any filtering we must first create the tick list.

  1. Open BodhiGold and click the Configure button.
  2. In the Finance tab, click on the + next to Australia then the + next to Australian Stock Exchange then click on Equity. The Australian Stock Exchange Equity Product Manager will open.
  3. Locate the 10 symbols in the list (listed alphabetically) and place a tick in each symbols corresponding box.

    BodhiGold: Creating a ticked list
The tally in the Ticked box should read 10

  4. Select Tick then Save from the top-menu. The Save Ticked Selection dialog box will appear.
  5. Type My Portfolio in the Save in box then exit the dialog by clicking the x.

    BodhiGold: Saving a ticked list

  6. This tick list is now saved. You can clear the list by going to Tick>Clear. If you want to deselect symbols or add new symbols to this tick list, you simply load the list (Tick>Load), make your changes then re-save the list.
  7. Exit the Australian Stock Exchange Equity Product Manager by clicking the x.
  8. To filter this ticked list into a directory, follow the instructions above from point 2 to 21 (Type in the codes manually).
  9. Double-click in the Symbol Criteria box.
  10. In the Symbol Filter Editor, click the Insert button.

    BodhiGold: Filtering a Ticked List

  11. On the Choose dialog box, select in file from the first drop-down box and My Portfolio from the second box. Exit the Choose box (by clicking the x).
  12. Exit the Symbol Filter Editor by clicking the x button. We have now filtered this directory so it contains only the symbols we have entered into our My Portfolio tick list. Any changes you make to this tick list (additions or deletions) will filter through to this directory from the date that you make the change.
