These instructions will explain how to select a set group of symbols by index. If you do not have BodhiGold installed on your computer, please refer to this tutorial: Installing BodhiGold
Information for Trial Users:
Users trialing BodhiGold are only permitted to download 6-months of history. When you purchase a subscription you will be sent historical data on CD-Rom which will append seamlessly to the data you have downloaded during your trial period. To download 6-months of history refer to this tutorial: Download 6-months history
Information for Previous BodhiGold Users:
This new version of BodhiGold includes a feature that will populate any new directories automatically. This feature is turned on by default (Edit>Options>General). It works by checking your current Bodhi5 data directories to see if you have older historical data for the symbols you have recently chosen to download. If you do, it copies that data into the new directory format. |
Information about updating a set group of symbols:
A new feature in BodhiGold allows you to download the constituents (symbols) of an index/group into a directory. This means that you can follow the companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average the FTSE 100 or the S&P ASX 200.
Naturally you need to be a subscriber to the exchanges that these constituents trade on before you can download symbols into these groups. To find out how much it will cost to add a particular market, contact our sales team.
Please Note: some of the sets that are available include constituents that trade on different exchanges. For example, the symbols that make up the S&P 400 index trade on three exchanges (AMEX, NASDAQ & New York). If you only subscribe to one of these exchanges the directory will only include the constituents that trade on that exchange.
There are two [2] steps involved when turning on set groups.
[+] Turning sets on for your format Sets are handled individually for each format that BodhiGold updates and are turned off by default.
[+] Selecting the sets you want to download You need to select the sets from a list that is available for each market.
Turning sets on for your format
In this tutorial I'll show you how to select the Dow Jones Industrial set and have it updating in MetaStock format. Our first step is turning on the MetaStock format and configuring it for Groups.
- Open BodhiGold.
- Click on the Configure button. The Configuration screen will appear.
- In the Data Distribution section on the screen, tick the box next to the word MetaStock to activate this format. Then right-click over the word MetaStock to display a selection box.
- This box controls the settings for any directories you create in MetaStock format. The DirLimit box lets you choose how many files you want in each directory. Different versions of MetaStock are limited to different amounts. For example, early versions could only handle 225 files per directory. The default setting is 2000, if you change this please make sure your copy of MetaStock can handle the amount you enter or your software will not read the data files created.
- Put a tick in the Groups box then exit [x] the screen. This format is now configured to create Group directories for any sets of symbols you choose below.
You can turn on Groups for any active format in this list.
Selecting the sets you want to download
Once you've turned these sets on for the format/s you use you can then download the lists and select the sets you want to download.
In this tutorial we are going to select the Dow Jones Industrial set. This index includes symbols that trade on the Nasdaq & New York Stock Exchanges.
- Open BodhiGold.
- Click on the Configure button. The Configuration screen will appear.
- Click on the Groups button to display the Configuration screen.
- Connect to the Internet then go to File>Refresh to download the latest Exchange lists.

- Select NASDAQ Exchange Consolidated ~ Equity from the drop-down box. This will display the set list available for that Exchange.
- Put a tick in the box next to Dow Jones Industrial to select it. The Path at the top of the screen will tell you the directory these symbols will download to.
- As previously discussed the Dow Jones Industrial contains symbols that trade over two markets. By selecting this set in the NASDAQ list we are ensuring that all the symbols that make up this index and that trade on this exchange are added to this directory. However, we also need to select it in the New York List.
- From the drop-down box, select New York Exchange Consolidated ~ Equity to display the set list available from this Exchange.
- Put a tick in the box next to Dow Jones Industrial to select it.
- Exit [x] the Configuration (Groups) screen.
- Exit [x] the Configuration screen.
- Connect to the Internet and click the Catchup button. This will download the latest data into your new Dow Jones Industrial directory.
If you have been updating the NASDAQ & New York Exchanges previously using BodhiGold or you have loaded a historical data disk then this directory will be filled with the history you have accumulated. If this doesn't occur you will need to go into the Edit>Options>General tab and tick the option: Copy history from another database if missing.
