Troubleshooting
Problems running the install program or error messages about missing essential components
If you can't run the installer you are missing the Visual Basic 6 runtime or your computer may not have the latest versions of essential operating system files, or in some cases they might not be installed at all. To solve the problem, find the error you are having in the table below and follow the prompts to correct it.
| Error |
Solution |
| msvbvm60.dll error |
Download and run this file, then try the program again: Visual Basic 6 Runtime (1.2Mb - This download is from Microsoft®) |
| you get an error message about DAO or JET when you start FCharts |
FCharts (Pro and SE) can use a Microsoft JET database engine internally to store data, although the default is to use my own database which doesn't need additional software. If you have to use JET for some reason, and the drivers are missing from your PC, you can download the MDAC and JET runtimes for your version of Windows from this page: Data Drivers on microsoft.com. Note that it's moved half a dozen times in the past three years, if the page comes up empty start with http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/ and look for download links. |
| You get an error message when you try to access a particular feature |
These are standard Windows components. Just download the one(s) you need, then extract to your Windows System path. If you can't access your Windows System path, in some cases you can just extract them to the program path. You will need an unzipper such as Winzip to extract them.
Msflxgrd.ocx
Msinet.ocx
Tabctl32.ocx
Comdlg32.ocx
MSComCtl.ocx
Msmask32.ocx |
Error 75
This will occur if you back-up to CD then copy the files to another computer. Copying to CD makes all the files read-only, so after copying them off you have to do one of the following:
Windows XP or 2000: Right-click the FCharts program folder and choose properties, then untick the
Read only box and click
Apply.
Other versions of Windows: Open a command prompt and type the following:
attrib -r /s "C:\program files\fcharts\*.*"
(Note the space after the '-r' and the '/s'. You must modify the path to suit your installation).
When you press enter it will change all the files back to read/write and the program will work.
Error 7 in Startup
This seems to be an exclusive new problem with Windows XP. If you move an OCX file manually, XP doesn't know where it went and generates an
Out of Memory error. The fix is to tell XP where the OCX went, which means running a program called
RegSvr32. You have to run the program through the command line. So, click
Start and choose
Run then type: RegSvr32 [path and filename of ocx].
Eg:
Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\FCharts\ChartEngine.ocx"
and press
Enter to lock it in. You should enclose the parameter (path\filename) with double quotes to keep all the bits together.
