Sedol Tracker

Sedol Tracker is an automated system that gives market participants an easy to use gateway to securities standing data. Sedol Tracker is designed to track changes to the static securities database maintained by the London Stock Exchange (LSE). The system is fully configurable and can be used for research, portfolio valuations and securities master data management.

How does Sedol Tracker work?
Each day the LSE produces changes that have accrued to securities data in the previous 24-hour period. These changes are checked and de-duplicated by us and a feed produced for the Sedol Tracker system. We currently receive around 500 to 1000 changed records per day. In addition to ‘new changes’, Sedol Tracker allows you to track archived historical changes to securities, thus allowing comprehensive changes reports to be run retrospectively through a variety of filters.

An additional function to Sedol Tracker is the new Successor Report. This report lists all the securities that have undergone an event change in the selected date range. When a security is referred onto another, Sedol Tracker displays a button with the word ‘Successor’ and the successor issue details are looked up. This link works both ways. A backward link is indicated by the presence of a ‘Predecessor’ button.

    Key success factors
  • Efficiency
Sedol Tracker runs and loads very quickly. 300,000 securities with 12 months archived changes comes to around 150 mb.
  • Reliability
The information is timely and accurate. The screens are replete with hints and further ‘help’ functions relating to the data fields available.
  • Configuration
Sedol Tracker can be configured to show only those fields that are of interest to you. The system supports two views of the securities data, one for viewing of records and the other for tracking changes. The user can select and de-select fields and control the order that the fields are viewed and printed. The reports are produced on-screen for viewing, which allows ‘experimentation’ before committing to paper. Printing is user configurable in terms of font size, page width/length etc. In a similar way the changes tracker can be configured to only track changes for a user-defined list of fields.
  • Flexibility
Securities can be filtered on trading status (Trading, Coded, and Defunct) and on a substring within the security description, e.g. by selecting Trading and ‘Ord’, only ordinary lines would be selected.
  • Reports
The system runs and prints a variety of reports; changes, additions, successor and name changes which are fully configurable. Portfolios can be imported/exported and used as filters in changes reports. Issuers can be selected individually and changes reports run on them. Portfolios and historical ‘Sedol Changes’ and ‘Issuer Changes’ reports are all included as standard.
  • Queries
Queries can be configured to allow combinations of country and stock types to be selected. A list of countries is compiled and this can be applied to various fields, i.e. country of incorporation, register, ISIN country, and/or information source. In addition a list of stock types can be selected. This facility allows you to run complex filters to narrow your interrogation of the data. Queries can be defined, saved and later restored for use in a changes report.
  • Historical data
Sedol Tracker gives the ideal solution to historical securities data used for research, portfolio valuations and securities data management. Reports can be run which show individual securities and it is possible to view the historical changes to single fields within the main security-viewing screen.
  • Name changes
Sedol Tracker stores all name changes to companies. This allows searches to be made on old names, which are displayed on a screen together with the new changed name and date of change.
